Wouldn’t it be nice if when you got sick during your vacation, you could use your sick days instead and reschedule your vacation for a better time? According to the European Union Supreme Court, you can do just that! The court has ruled that an employer must give an employee sick leave during a vacation and not charge that employee vacation time.
“The purpose of entitlement to paid annual leave is to enable the worker to rest and enjoy a period of relaxation and leisure,” the Court of Justice of the European Union, based in Luxembourg, ruled in a case involving department store workers in Spain. “The purpose of entitlement to sick leave is different, since it enables a worker to recover from an illness that has caused him to be unfit for work.”
And we wonder why Europe is having such tough time with its economy.
We know that the bible says that if a man does not work, he should not eat. The fall brought about the curse that required difficult work, but did you know that man was put to work even before being kicked out of the Garden of Eden?
I cannot fathom were the EU court found the right to vacation at all costs and the mandate to force an employer to pay for it. Enough of liberalism gone wild, it’s time we get back to work.
