Memorial Day or Decoration Day as it was known from the time of the Civil War, is a day to recall what has been done for us. Traditionally, this day is a time to restore the markers and grounds of our nation’s resting places. It is a time to give thanks to the Lord and our fallen heroes for freedom and liberty we enjoy.
Most of America’s schools have evaded teaching of these lessons. Whether it is intentional or not, I will leave it for you to judge. Without knowing where we have come from, we will likely not know where we are headed.
The bible teaches us that we are to honor the memorial stones laid up by our ancestors. Some were commanded by God to be raised, like the raising of the Ebenezer stone to remember what the Lord has done for us and the importance of hearing and obeying God’s commands. Others were monuments to the self sacrifice of men and women who stood in the gap for our sakes.
Make it a point during this memorial day weekend as you enjoy your family and friends to take a little time and remember that you were bought with a price.
