Passengers on an Italian cruise ship tell of an everyman for themselves environment as their ship began to sink. From beginning to end self centered attitudes brought about disastrous results. From the captain who wanted to call attention to himself by sailing off course and too close to shore, to his then abandoned ship before his crew and passengers. Later, when men were told to allow women and children to leave first they instead shoved their way onto the escape boats.
The bible warns us that in the last days people would be lovers of themselves among other things. There have always been self-centered and self-serving people, but when we see the majority of people so self focused, it brings great concern. The captain should be held accountable for his actions, from the death of his passengers to his cowardice behavior. Without the Lord selfishness will prevail.
