Self confessed drunk driver James Ruiz pled guilty to several charges including vehicular homicide on Thursday. While driving drunk in 2010 Ruiz killed two sisters in Santa Fe. He also admitted that this was his fifth DUI and had been awaiting trial for his fourth when the accident occurred. During his plea, Mr. Ruiz laid the blame for his actions at the feet of the Santa Fe County district attorney’s office for moving too slow on his DUI trial.
The bible tells us that drunkenness brings destruction. While it is true that the DA and court system should provide a speedy trial, James Ruiz was and is responsible for his own actions. The scripture is clear that we are responsible for our own sin. Until we take ownership for our sin and admit we fall short and turn to God, DUI’s and other public sins will continue to destroy lives.
