You just gotta love the Donald. The world’s most famous real estate mogul and boss to every aspiring apprentice is making headlines by asking the question Joseph Farrah has been asking for years, “Mr. President, please show us
your birth certificate“. Donald Trump has created a firestorm in asking this question, and Mr. Trump is one of the few people that could do such a thing. Others have raised this same issue. Even before the election, there were many asking this question. They were marginalized by the media and pundits as quacks and hacks, eventually being lumped together as “birthers”.
There are such passions about this issue that one man, editor of the right wing website WorldNetDaily.com, Joseph Farrah has made this into a bonafide crusade. Mr. Farrah has even launched a billboard campaign using the slogan, “Where’s the birth certificate” across the country, even selling bumper stickers with same slogan to raise money for the billboards. There have been law suits that have made it to the Supreme Court (not to be heard as of yet), but still nothing more than ridicule from the main stream media. Nothing but snickers from even conservative media and talk show hosts. This thing has been a non-starter for three years now. Then enters Donald Trump.
Regardless of how you feel about Donald Trump, you can’t just ignore him. The thing is, you don’t know for sure what his angle might be. Is he running for president? Don’t know, he hasn’t announced if he is or he isn’t. Does he have some other motive for stirring up trouble for President Obama? I’m not sure, but I think something the president did or some policy he enacted must have really tweeked Mr. Trump. Cause now there’s trouble in River City. All he has done is make a couple of speeches and tick off Whoppi Goldberg. He knew how to get a buzz going by just asking for the birth certificate, and because he is Donald Trump, now everyone else is wondering why can’t the president produce such a simple document.
I have to admit that this issue only raised my proverbial eyebrow, I always thought there were more important issues to be dealt with, like policies, ideologies and such. I did always wonder why the president would waste so many millions of dollars when he could just show the silly thing. I figured there was something more to it, but getting to it would never happen. But, now I wonder how big this thing might become, could Mr. Trump do, with a little showmanship, what so many Don Quixote types could only dream of doing.
