The Price of Black Gold

Oil prices are on the rise. With unrest in the Middle East the price of crude oil continues to climb. Is this just a result of the turmoil or is there something else at work? Oil PumpMississippi Governor Haley Barbour believes it is the goal of the Obama administration to allow gas prices to increase in order to encourage Americans to buy more gas efficient vehicles (preferably GM)  and reduce pollution. Mr Obama has previously stated that he saw the need for energy prices to “necessarily” skyrocket in order to effect current greenhouse gas emissions in a positive way.

He has a right to believe this way, he may even truly believe that global warming is real (I have my doubts). But the effects of such beliefs must also be recognized. When the gulf oil spill occurred last year the president was slow to react and even seemed disinterested in its effect on the American economy. When he did react, it was only to ban drilling in the gulf. This allowed other countries to come in and lease the oil rigs, making them unavailable to US oil companies. Now that the dominoes are falling in the Middle East, prices once again are climbing to historic levels with little relief in sight.

For the president it would be a simple matter of releasing land available for oil drilling (not even actual drilling would need to happen) and prices would immediately begin to fall. This does not meet his agenda. He is not interested in the health of the American economy, the goal is to lower us to the level of less developed countries. If we understand the true nature of his thinking, we can start to see that he is not incompetent as many believe him to be, but rather we are on track to achieve his stated goals.

I can understand the point of view of many, even in the conservative movement, to reduce our use of oil in general. I would argue that we have developed technology to access the oil we have already found and that we should open up the reserves we have not tapped yet. If we want to leave oil behind, give the big energy companies huge tax breaks on their profits from that oil to invest in research and development. Let them try thinking differently about the issue, not the same old technologies. Reagan did a lot of this sort of thing and we saw many innovations as a result.

Bottom line is that America needs to do what is does best, innovate. The green agenda is bent on redistributing wealth and destroying the US of A. Let’s choose to be great again and stop being weak and helpless.
